Science diplomacy, diversity and the Global South – InsSciDE Open Conference Lisbon

InsSciDE’s third open conference, to be hosted 22-24 March in Lisbon, places the focus on the Global South and explores crucial themes in Europe’s relationships to the many emergent poles of scientific expertise and influence.

Employing InsSciDE’s signature historical approach, the three-day event will critically examine Global North-Global South architecture and the role that science diplomacy plays in both past and future cooperative (or competitive) endeavors.

  • DAY 1 spotlights the role of Academies of Science in science diplomacy, engaging scholars and professionals to chart Academies’ international action in the present and as far back as the 18th century. Organized in partnership with the Lisbon Academy of Sciences.
  • DAY 2 convenes European and global perspectives on emerging movements in science and diplomacy, from open science and innovation diplomacy to the Anthropocene and ‘new’ actors and definitions in science diplomacy.
  • DAY 3 invites science diplomacy practitioners, scholars, and other stakeholders to debate the major findings of our two dozen historical case studies. Join InsSciDE researchers to transform the cases into valuable tools for teaching, training and your everyday practice. (Primarily an in-person segment; online access TBD)

On Friday 25 March there will be internal meetings for project members and invited guests.
